The people of Kyiremfaso in the Asante Mampong Municipality witnessed a historic moment on Thursday, September 25, 2025, when Care for Society Network International (CfSNI) inaugurated the Yen Anidaso Clubs of Readers (YACoR – DAA Chapter) at the Kyiremfaso M/A Junior High School.

The event, graced by traditional leaders, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Ghana Education Service, the Assemblyman, parents, and community members, symbolized more than the opening of a reading club. It was a bold step toward restoring hope, empowering children through literacy, and reaffirming the collective responsibility of communities in shaping the future of education.

As part of the initiative, CfSNI provided 200 reading materials and 400 exercise books and pens, setting the foundation for children to cultivate strong reading habits and embrace the joy of learning.

The Chief of Kyiremfaso expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Daniel Agyemfour-Agyemang, whose support made the project possible, recognizing his commitment to give back to the very community where he began his educational journey.

“Dr. Agyemang has shown us what it means to remember one’s roots. He has brought hope to our children through literacy and support for a school he once attended. I encourage others to follow his example by giving back to their communities,” the Chief remarked.

He pledged the chiefs’ full support for the project and reminded parents that while teachers will play their part, the responsibility of raising disciplined, literate children lies heavily on families.

In a stirring address, Mrs Anita Ampofoa Amoako-Gyimah, Executive Director of CfSNI, spoke passionately about the link between parental involvement and academic success.

If a child performs well in their academics, I will give 50% credit to teachers and 50% to parents. My parents supported my education, and that is what has led me to this point and the work I do today. When parents provide materials, encouragement, and support, children thrive.”

She described the inauguration not only as the opening of a club but as the planting of seeds of change that will empower children especially girls to learn, thrive, and lead.

Education should be a ladder out of poverty, but here it is becoming a barrier to progress. The state of this school building moved us, and that is why we have taken it upon ourselves to renovate the Kyiremfaso M/A JHS. This project is not only about books but also about restoring dignity and creating an environment that fosters learning.”

The Executive Director also announced the introduction of the Obaa Nhweso Initiative (ONI), CfSNI’s mentorship club for girls, to build determination, focus, and resilience among female students.

Looking to the future, she outlined CfSNI’s impact goals:

  • Achieve 80% literacy improvement among children within two years,
  • Reduce girls’ dropout rates by 40%, and
  • Establish a vibrant reading culture that positions Kyiremfaso as a model for rural education transformation.

She concluded with a powerful call to action:

Let us nurture the clubs with the same care we give to precious seeds so they grow into trees of knowledge for generations. When you give a child a book, you are not just giving them words; you are giving them wings to fly. May the Yen Anidaso Clubs of Readers be the wings of Kyiremfaso as we restore hope through education, literacy, and empowerment.”

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asante Mampong, Hon. Yusif Yakubu, applauded CfSNI’s efforts and commended the chiefs and leaders for embracing the project.

If CfSNI is here to renovate the Kyiremfaso M/A JHS, then it requires collective action. I urge the chiefs and community leaders to support and maintain the building after renovation so CfSNI will be encouraged to support other schools as well.”

He advised parents to ensure that children complete their homework and study regularly, while pledging to support CfSNI’s work and lobbying for the initiative to extend to other districts.

“Parents must support their children’s education, and students must embrace this opportunity to rise and become prominent people like myself and beyond.”

The District Director of Education emphasized the transformative power of literacy and acknowledged CfSNI’s contributions.

Knowledge is gained through reading, and this project is a step in the right direction. The provision of books and the inauguration of YACoR will instill a reading culture that strengthens our children’s literacy foundation. We thank CfSNI for this timely intervention.”

The Headmaster of Kyiremfaso M/A JHS called on parents to complement the efforts of teachers.

We encourage parents to help their children develop the habit of reading and to ease the burden of the teachers. Education is a shared responsibility, and together we can raise disciplined and successful children.”

The inauguration of the Yen Anidaso Clubs of Readers marks a defining moment for Kyiremfaso. With chiefs pledging support, government assuring partnership, parents urged to take responsibility, and students motivated to read, the seeds of change have been planted.

For CfSNI, the project is more than an intervention it is a movement to restore hope, empower children, and transform rural education in Ghana.
