The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa South, Hon. Addo Aikins Jnr, has revealed that the official residence designated for the MCE was heavily degraded by illegal small-scale mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, before he assumed office.
Speaking on Radio 1, 100.7 FM, during a morning program hosted by Nana Kwabena Addo, Hon. Addo Aikins Jnr explained that the residence had been extensively mined and left in a deplorable condition, rendering it unfit for habitation.
According to him, upon taking office, he immediately initiated measures to rehabilitate the degraded land and restore the property. The site has since been fully reclaimed and is now being used as his official residence. The MCE noted that the initiative reflects his commitment to environmental protection and responsible leadership, particularly in the ongoing fight against illegal mining within the municipality.
