Fanteakwa South District Assembly Distributes Items to Persons with Disabilities

The Fanteakwa South District Assembly has distributed 100 assorted items to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district as part of government efforts to improve their livelihoods.

The presentation ceremony took place at Akyem Dwenase on December 17, 2025, in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Mercy Korang, expressed her profound gratitude to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for his passion and commitment to the welfare of Persons with Disabilities across the country. She explained that the items were provided to ease the burden on beneficiaries and their families, while empowering them to live meaningful and productive lives.According to the DCE, the support forms part of the government’s vision to economically and socially empower PWDs. She emphasized that the items were meant to support beneficiaries’ livelihoods and must not be sold.

The items distributed included deep freezers, television sets, fufu machines, pumping machines, cocoa spraying machines, bags of charcoal, fertilizer, machetes, and cash.

Hon. Korang cautioned beneficiaries against selling the items, stressing that doing so is against the law. She revealed that the Assembly would establish a task force to monitor the proper use of the items and take action against anyone found violating the directive.

She further urged beneficiaries to have confidence in the President John Dramani Mahama-led administration, describing the initiative as part of the government’s “Resetting Agenda,” which places Persons with Disabilities at the center of national development. She encouraged them to use the items strictly for their intended purposes. The DCE also assured individuals who did not receive items during this phase to remain patient, noting that a second batch would be rolled out to ensure that no Person with Disability in the district is left out.

Hon. Korang expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, particularly the Dwenase Queenmother, Nana Appea Sarpomaa Kumankuma, for gracing the occasion. She also thanked all stakeholders and residents for their support in making the program a success.
