The Managing Editor of the Daily Democrat Newspaper and a member of the National Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Opare Djan, has appealed to cocoa farmers across the country to remain patient following the recent reduction in cocoa prices, describing the move as difficult but necessary to safeguard the long-term stability of the sector.
Speaking in an interview on Radio 1 100.7FM with morning show host Nana Kwabena Addo, Mr. Opare Djan acknowledged the hardship the price adjustment has placed on cocoa farmers nationwide.
He noted that although the reduction has negatively affected farmers’ incomes and livelihoods, it should be seen as a temporary measure aimed at stabilizing the cocoa industry and ensuring its sustainability in the years ahead.
Mr. Opare Djan urged farmers to accept what he described as a “bitter pill,” stressing that the sacrifices being made today are intended to secure a stronger, more resilient cocoa sector for the future.

He, however, suggested that government should introduce measures to cushion farmers affected by the price reduction. According to him, one possible intervention would be to identify impacted cocoa farmers and provide targeted support packages, including educational scholarships for their children.
He explained that such initiatives would help ease the financial burden on farming families while demonstrating government’s commitment to improving the welfare of cocoa producers.
Mr. Opare Djan assured farmers that their concerns remain a national priority and expressed optimism that upcoming policies and interventions would bring relief and improve economic conditions in cocoa-growing communities.
