As the global community commemorate World Radio Day 2026, Farm Radio International (FRI) has joined the celebration under the theme, “Radio & AI: Enhancing Trust, Creativity and Inclusion.”

This year’s observance underscores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening Africa’s radio ecosystem, promoting innovation, ethical storytelling and inclusive communication.

Recognised as one of the most accessible and trusted communication platforms across the continent, radio continues to connect millions of people in both rural and urban communities. Farm Radio International believes that the responsible integration of AI into broadcasting can further amplify African voices, foster creativity and expand inclusive access to information.

For more than four decades, Farm Radio International has partnered with broadcasters to ensure radio remains vibrant, people-centred and responsive to the needs of rural audiences. The organisation notes that AI presents new opportunities to deepen this impact.

FRI’s flagship initiatives, including the Green Leaf Radio Program and the Digital Advisory Approaches and Services Program (DAASP), already leverage mobile and digital tools that lay the groundwork for AI integration in broadcasting and agricultural advisory services.

“Radio remains the heartbeat of Africa’s information flow, especially in rural areas. By embracing AI responsibly, we can amplify authentic African voices, nurture creativity, and build inclusive platforms that reflect the diversity of our communities,” said Rosemond Ohene, Country Director of Farm Radio International, Ghana.

As part of its World Radio Day activities, FRI Ghana will host a virtual forum bringing together radio professionals, artificial intelligence experts, youth representatives and policymakers to explore the opportunities and ethical considerations surrounding AI in African media.

The organisation is inviting media stakeholders, development partners and the public to participate in the celebration and dialogue, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that technology works for every farmer in Ghana.

World Radio Day 2026 is not only a celebration of radio’s enduring legacy but also a call to embrace its future.

“Together, we can ensure that Africa leads in shaping how AI strengthens communication for development,” she stated.
