GFZA Deepens Global Investment Drive as Malaysian Delegation Explores Strategic Partnership

Accra, January 2026, the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has taken another bold step in strengthening international investment collaboration, hosting a high-level delegation from the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) on Thursday, 29th January 2026.

The delegation was led by H.E. Syed Nauzer Idid, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Ghana, and paid a courtesy call on the Authority as part of a follow-up to earlier engagements involving MIDA, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), GFZA, and other key stakeholders at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness (MoTAI).

The visit focused on identifying challenges confronting GFZA in its investment promotion efforts. These insights will support MIDA and JICA in developing targeted training modules aimed at strengthening the technical and institutional capacity of GFZA staff. The delegation also featured executives from Techaira, an IT software firm exploring opportunities to operate under Ghana’s Free Zones Scheme.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, expressed appreciation to the Malaysian High Commission and MIDA for the engagement. He reaffirmed GFZA’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that drive sustainable, export-led industrial growth and provided an overview of the Free Zones concept and its role in Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

The Director of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations and Aftercare, Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, delivered a detailed presentation on GFZA’s mandate and operations, outlining the Authority’s investment incentives, entry requirements, and the competitive advantages Ghana offers to export-oriented investors within a supportive business environment.

Discussions also centred on capacity building and knowledge exchange, with emphasis on investment facilitation, aftercare services, data collection and analysis, enclave development, and the transition towards Special Economic Zones. Both GFZA and MIDA reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and sustaining engagement to deliver measurable outcomes.

Other officials present at the meeting included Mr. Michael Larbi, Head of Compliance; Mr. Benjamin Obeng, Head of Estates, Zones and Applications; and a representative from JICA, Ms. Umme Aime Siddiqi.
