Ghana’s agricultural sector is set to receive a significant boost with a $22.6 million loan from the World Bank under the West Africa Food System Resilience Project (FSRP).
The funding, announced by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, aims to enhance food security and address long-standing structural challenges in the sector.
Speaking during a tour of Golden Exotics Limited, a leading banana production and export company, and rice farms in Kpong and Asutsuare, Dr. Forson expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s support.

“Let me thank the World Bank for the assistance and for allocating this loan facility to the Government of Ghana to enable us to develop our agriculture sector. This is a sector that has struggled over the years, and this support will go a long way,” he said.
The FSRP will improve farmers’ access to reliable weather and climate advisory services through digital platforms and boost production of key commodities such as maize, rice, soybean, tomato, and poultry. This aims to enhance productivity and resilience across the food system.
World Bank’s Division Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Robert Taliercio, emphasized the Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s agricultural development priorities.
“Agriculture is a very important sector for Ghana. Infrastructure remains a recurring challenge, and despite existing constraints, the World Bank remains committed to supporting Ghana, particularly in addressing these infrastructure gaps,” he said.
The loan facility is expected to play a critical role in tackling persistent challenges in the country’s agricultural sector, which accounts for a significant share of the country’s GDP and remains a major source of employment.
