Government Reaffirms Support for Private Investment in Aquaculture Sector

The ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding domestic fish production and strengthening food security following a two-day working visit by hon. Emelia Arthur, the minister to selected aquaculture farms in the Eastern, Volta and Greater Accra Regions.

‎The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition aquaculture as a key driver of import substitution, job creation and inclusive economic growth, in line with the national development framework and the 24-Hour Economy policy under the leadership of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.

‎ During the tour, engagement were held with aquaculture operators and industry stakeholders to assess production systems, operational challenges, fish health management practices, processing capacity and investment opportunities across the aquaculture value chain.

The visit covered major aquaculture and aquaculture-related facilities, providing firsthand insight into feed production, hatchery operations, grow-out systems, processing infrastructure and private sector innovations supporting the industry, she added.

‎The importance of technology adoption, strengthened biosecurity systems and research-driven growth was emphasised as critical to modernising the aquaculture sector. Operators were also assured of Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for private investment and public-private partnerships.

‎The Government remains focused on building a resilient and sustainable aquaculture industry that enhances food security, creates decent jobs and contributes significantly to national economic transformation, she emphasizes.
