POLICE ARREST THREE FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS IN WA WEST DISTRICT

Police officers on routine patrol duties in the Wa West District have arrested three (3) persons for unlawfully possessing firearms and ammunition.

The arrests were made after a patrol team sighted a group of about five (5) men openly wielding cutlasses, posing a potential threat to public safety. Upon noticing the approaching police patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee.

The patrol team pursued the group and successfully arrested three (3) suspects, identified as [Name], aged 37 years, and Yiritang Boosi, aged 35 years, along with one other individual.

A search conducted on the suspects at the scene led to the retrieval of three (3) single-barrel guns, three (3) cutlasses, and twenty-three (23) BB cartridges.

The suspects were subsequently conveyed to the police station, where the retrieved firearms and ammunition were secured as exhibits. They have since been remanded into lawful custody by the Wa Magistrate Court, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape.

The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the vigilance and professionalism of the patrol team and cautions the public—particularly individuals in possession of firearms without valid licences—to comply with the law.

The Command remains committed to sustaining peace and security across the region and calls on the public to continue supporting the Police through cooperation and timely information sharing.
