POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTED STREET ROBBERS AND RETRIEVE EXHIBITS AT DZORWULU

The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers following an intelligence-led patrol operation at Dzorwulu in Accra.

On Wednesday, 14th January 2026, a police patrol team on routine motorbike patrol encountered two suspicious individuals riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike. The suspects were dressed in all-black attire and wore black helmets. The pillion rider was observed in possession of a cutlass.

Upon sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a pursuit. Warning shots were fired during the chase, causing the suspects to lose control of the motorbike and fall near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission. They subsequently attempted to escape on foot but were traced and arrested by the patrol team.

The suspects were identified as Stephen Gletsu, aged 37, the rider of the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, aged 20, the pillion rider.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of the following items: one Infinix mobile phone, one iPhone 12 Pro, one Samsung A21, one iPhone 15 Pro, one iPhone 13, one Infinix feature phone, one itel feature phone, one Nokia feature phone, one Infinix X6528 phone, a necklace, and cash in the sum of Two Thousand Six Hundred and Ninety Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,690.00) and Two United States Dollars (USD 2).

The suspects sustained varying degrees of injuries during the arrest and were taken to the Police Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to committing several robbery incidents within the Accra Metropolis. Statements have since been obtained from multiple victims, who positively identified both the suspects and their stolen mobile phones. The victims reported that the suspects attacked them with a machete and made away with their phones, money, and other personal belongings.

The suspects have been remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Further investigations have also led to the arrest of four additional accomplices, who are currently assisting the police. The suspects have been arraigned before court and are expected to reappear on Wednesday, 4th February 2026.
