Accra, February 7, 2026 — President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal.
The decision follows allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held on Saturday in the Ayawaso East Constituency, in which Mr. Baba Jamal contested as a candidate.
In a directive to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, President Mahama noted that although allegations of vote-buying were made against several candidates who participated in the primaries, Mr. Baba Jamal was the only one serving as a public officer at the time.
The President also took note of a public statement by the General Secretary of the NDC confirming that the party has initiated its own internal investigations into the alleged misconduct arising from the primaries.

Without prejudice to the ongoing party processes, and in line with the standards of conduct expected of public officers, President Mahama stated that the recall was necessary to protect the integrity of public office and to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
The recall takes immediate effect. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has been directed to take all the required administrative and diplomatic steps to implement the President’s directive.
The announcement was signed by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
