Ministry Staff Undergo Training to Strengthen Fight Against Human Trafficking
The Human Trafficking Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has organised a capacity-building training programme for selected staff of the Ministry to strengthen their ability to address human trafficking.

The training session, held in collaboration with Zoe, Akyea & Co., forms part of the Secretariat’s broader strategy to deepen institutional understanding of human trafficking and improve coordinated responses to the crime.
The programme was designed to go beyond general awareness by equipping participants with practical knowledge on the nature, causes and consequences of human trafficking.

A key component of the training focused on the application of the 4Ps framework — Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnership — to promote a holistic and coordinated institutional approach to combating the crime.
Speaking during the session, the Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Abena Annobea Asare, emphasised the importance of the initiative, noting that it was a critical step in empowering Ministry staff with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, prevent and respond effectively to trafficking cases.

Officials from Zoe, Akyea & Co., a law firm with recognised expertise in legal issues including human trafficking, facilitated the training through technical and legal presentations.
Using interactive presentations and case studies, the facilitators provided participants with deeper insights into national and international legal frameworks governing human trafficking, the prosecution process and the rights of victims.
The session also enhanced the Ministry’s understanding of how to collaborate more effectively with legal stakeholders in addressing trafficking cases and strengthening the overall fight against modern-day slavery.
