ECG Reaffirms Confidence in Metering System Amid Billing Concerns

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the public of the accuracy and reliability of its metering and billing systems following concerns raised by some prepaid customers and stakeholders.

In a press release signed by its Director of Communications, William Boateng, the power distributor stated that all meters deployed across the country undergo rigorous testing and calibration prior to installation.

According to ECG, its quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards, adding that its meter testing laboratory is “state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide.”
The company further disclosed that all its meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) before deployment to ensure compliance with approved standards.

Despite expressing confidence in the integrity of its systems, ECG acknowledged that some customers may have genuine concerns about billing and meter performance. The company said it is committed to addressing all complaints in line with a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition.
Investigations into the concerns have already commenced, ECG noted.

As part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability, the company revealed that it has formally requested the GSA to independently and randomly select meters for testing, both in the laboratory and in the field.
ECG indicated that the GSA’s findings will form part of a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Minister.

The power distributor reiterated its commitment to responsive and transparent service delivery, while expressing appreciation to customers and stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation.
