The Fanteakwa South District Assembly has presented training kits to 36 beneficiaries under the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme in the district. The beneficiaries include 30 apprentices and six master craft persons.

The items were presented by the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa South, Mercy Korang, at a ceremony held at the Methodist Church Ghana premises in Bososo.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Korang explained that the initiative forms part of the campaign commitments of the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, aimed at empowering young people through vocational skills development.
She stated that the programme is designed to support youth who have the passion to learn a trade by providing them with essential training equipment, thereby reducing the financial burden on families and society.

According to the DCE, the beneficiaries are being trained in various vocational areas, particularly hairdressing and tailoring. The items distributed included industrial sewing machines, butterfly sewing machines, tailoring tools and accessories, as well as hair dryers and other hairdressing equipment.

Hon. Korang urged the beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly and strictly for the purposes for which they were provided.
She stressed that the programme seeks to equip young people with employable skills, enabling them to become self-reliant and eventually establish their own businesses.
“I will be happy to see more young people in the district undergoing training and acquiring skills that will create opportunities for them to become their own bosses,” she said..
She further assured the beneficiaries that the government remains committed to supporting individuals willing to acquire vocational skills. As part of the initiative, apprentices will receive monthly stipends, while masters and trainers will also receive allowances to facilitate the training process.
Upon completion of their training, the apprentices will be awarded professional certificates and provided with start-up equipment or, in some cases, start-up capital to help them establish their own businesses.

The Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress in Fanteakwa South, Mark Okraku, cautioned beneficiaries against selling the equipment provided to them. He warned that the items are strictly meant to support their training and that anyone found selling them would face the full rigours of the law.
The event was attended by traditional authorities, family members, friends, party executives and members of the media.
