The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (Ghana), in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Ghana, has launched a commemorative book celebrating the longstanding diplomatic relations between Peru and Ghana.

The book, titled “Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation,” was launched on Thursday, March 5, 2026, as part of Peru’s “Immortalizing Bilateral Relations” publication series. The publication chronicles nearly four decades of diplomatic engagement between the two countries since the establishment of formal relations in 1987, highlighting major milestones, shared values and cooperative initiatives that have strengthened ties between the two nations.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, described the book as an important record of the evolving relationship between Ghana and Peru.

According to him, the publication captures the gradual building of diplomatic bridges between two nations situated on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean but united by common commitments to democracy, multilateralism and inclusive development.

Hon. Ablakwa noted that both countries share a distinguished legacy within the United Nations, having produced two renowned former Secretaries-General — Javier Pérez de Cuéllar of Peru and Kofi Annan of Ghana — whose leadership continues to inspire global diplomacy.

He added that Peru remains an important partner for Ghana in areas such as trade, education, tourism, culture and multilateral diplomacy.

The Minister said the commemorative book serves not only as a reflection on past achievements but also as a guide for deepening future cooperation between the two countries.

“For nearly four decades, Ghana and Peru have cultivated a relationship founded on mutual respect and shared aspirations. This publication provides an opportunity to translate our diplomatic goodwill into concrete economic and development partnerships,” he noted.

In her remarks, the Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, Rosa Liliana Gómez de Weston, described the book as a tangible symbol of the friendship that has developed between the two nations over the years.

She observed that Ghana and Peru share similar historical experiences, including struggles for independence, nation-building and the pursuit of sustainable development.
Ambassador Gómez de Weston further indicated that relations between the two countries continue to expand through trade, cultural exchanges, academic collaboration and cooperation within international organisations.

The event was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional leaders, senior government officials, members of academia and other invited guests.
