Local Government Minister Welcomes Restoration of Peace in Sunyani Traditional Area

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has welcomed the restoration of peace in the Sunyani Traditional Area, describing it as a major step toward renewed development and investment in the municipality.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Sunyani Traditional Council at the Ministry on Thursday, March 5, 2026, the Minister stressed that peace and unity remain critical for effective governance and sustainable local development.

According to him, the Ministry facilitated the resolution of the long-standing chieftaincy dispute through the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, which blended traditional conflict resolution methods with administrative processes.

Hon. Ibrahim commended the leadership of the traditional area for prioritizing peace and dialogue, noting that their commitment to unity would help create an enabling environment for development initiatives in Sunyani.

He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, to support development efforts and strengthen local governance structures across the country.

The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeefuor Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, expressed appreciation to President Mahama, the Minister and the Ministry for their role in resolving the impasse and restoring harmony within the Sunyani Traditional Area.

He noted that the return of peace would enable the traditional area to focus on development and improving the livelihoods of its people.
