The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has provided emergency cash assistance to 134 vulnerable households in Obogu in the Ashanti Region under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

The intervention forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to expand LEAP coverage and respond promptly to urgent cases of vulnerability across the country.
The emergency support follows a recent visit to the community by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, during which significant hardship among some households was identified.

Acting on issues raised during the engagement, the Ministry, through the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Social Protection Directorate, collaborated with the Asante Akim Municipal Assembly to validate household data using the Ghana Household Registry.

The joint validation exercise confirmed 134 households as poor, with vulnerabilities including persons with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and elderly persons without support.

Emergency cash payments were subsequently disbursed on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in line with established LEAP standards.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, represented the Minister at the disbursement ceremony to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
Officials from the LEAP Management Secretariat and the Ministry were also present to monitor the exercise and ensure strict adherence to established procedures.

The Ministry said the intervention is expected to cushion beneficiary households against immediate hardship while reinforcing their resilience through sustained social protection measures under the LEAP programme.
