Post-Election Violence Already Over – Police Assures

The Director of Operations and Head of Elections task force, Chief Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Agordzo has assured Ghanaians that the post-election violence and attacks on certain individuals are already over.

“This attacks are already over . . . the past three days have not been good at all to the extent of someone losing his life,” he said on Peace FM’s ‘kokrokoo’.

To him peace for the elections is before, during and after so plans were put in place towards all these days ahead.

He added that the peace during the election was a collective effort by all Ghanaians.

“It is the culmination of the collective effort of all Ghanaians and stakeholders,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi, as he applauded Ghanaians.

According to him all plans before and during the elections went as expected but was surprised at this sudden change of attitude of some Ghanaians after the elections.

He said the Police Service projected and planned towards averting this kind of things, but are surprised due the magnitude of the violence.

“Some of the plans we made are that there could be some kind of attacks here and there because our history has shown that it happens.

“We thought that we had learned from our history . . . but how things were moving was so bad,” he lamented.

He added that one person has already been arrested and would be prosecuted soon after hitting someone that has resulted to the person’s death.

He pleaded with all the political parties to talk to their supporters to stay calm and stop over jubilating as anyone caught will prosecuted.

He said the Inspector General of Police has given out instructions across the country to Regional, Divisional and Unit commanders to be on the lookout for the perpetrators of any kind of violence.

“I have also personally deployed patrol teams and intelligence officers to be on the lookout,” he added.

He asked  Ghanaians to report and give the police any information that will assist them  in executing the duties.
