Madam Mariam Dzifa Ibrahim, whiles explaining the rationale behind the ban on “used cloths” noted that, since information behind the mode of spread and contraction remains scanty in the public domain, it is imperative for the central government to enact laws via the August House, banning these cloths from coming into the country which sometimes gets contaminated even before arriving at the country’s ports and boarders.
She said that, in this hard times such restrictive measures becomes the lender of last resort in curbing a pandemic of such nature.
Stressing on the issue, she bemoan the unhygienic conditions of some used clothing in the local market, and call for urgent promulgation of hard and fast rules to deal ruthlessly with persons or importers who may defy such directive, in the event government okayed the ban.
It is trite knowledge that, health experts have often call for regulations to formalize the importation of over age and used clothing in Ghana.
The ADAM GH, scribe has propose to President Akufo Addo to immediately direct the Trade and foreign Affairs Ministry to implement cogent instrument which should be subject to parliamentary approval over the importation of used clothes, which is popularly referred to as, “Fos”.
She believe a complete ban should be adhered to in order to decrease the anxiety, panic and superstition’s which have characterized the outbreak of the global pandemic (Corronavirus).
Though importers have argued positively about the medicated processes these cloths goes through before, it’s forwarded to the local market for sale, a scientific audit have proven that, a chunk of these used wears often carries infections and bacteria related diseases which are inimical to the human body.
“Fight covid 19 is salient, and a must, but i appeal to President Nana Addo to ban the importation of second hand clothing, if not for anything at all, we should do that for now, since we are trying hard to eradicate the deadly pandemic ” She stressed !
