Ogua Fetu Festival Likely To Be Postponed Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

It appears the deadly novel Coronavirus pandemic has seized every enjoyment, celebration of customary rites, festivals, crusades etc. as the most celebrated festival of the fantes, Fetu festival is likely to be called off.
A source within the traditional authorities revealed that this year would be memorable year since it would be the first time the one month celebration won’t be celebrated.
According to the chief, respecting the president’s directives in efforts to mitigate the effects of Covid – 19 and probably arrest it, it is therefore necessary for them to obey the ban on social gathering.
The source therefore revealed that a final decision would be made on Tuesday after the traditional authorities meet but he was confident to say that even if the president lifts the ban on social gathering at the end of the month, 2 – 3 months is inadequate for them to prepare for the one month occasion.

Moreover, the chief added that there are some customs the chiefs would perform which would need funding and they are really handicapped even as they have not sought for sponsorship from any company.
Ogua fetu afahye is annually celebrated from August to first week of September and has over the years been a very well patronised festival in Ghana.
Ghana has so far recorded 5,127 cases with 22 death and 494 recoveries. The president of Ghana recently extended the ban on social gathering to 31st May, 2020.
