Kumasi: Fire razes Akrofoum market

Fire has destroyed wooden structures at Akrofoum market at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

According to a Joynews report, the fire started at 1:am, Tuesday dawn and burnt down an unspecified amount of monies and properties.

It said, the structures used to serve as homes for some people.

“I shouted for help but it affected my shop so I had to call people to get out. I heard gas explosions”, an eyewitness recounted.

Another victim said, her business capital have been ravaged in the fire.

Luv Fm’s Nana Yaw Gyimah reporting said business and some household equipment were destroyed in the ravaging fire.

According to him, it took the intervention of the fire service personnel to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas.

DO 1 Amos Abban, Manhyia Divisional Fire Officer said, they received a disstres call around 11pm.

He noted that upon assessment of the fire, they called for an additional engine to bring the quench the fire.

According to him, the wooden structures were built scattered.

“It is built anyhow and accessibility of the men into the wooden structure very difficult. There’s no casualty at the moment and we’ve not received any report of casualty yet but as you can see most of structures are burnt down.”

He said investigation have commenced to ascertain the cause of the fire.
