Ghana Strengthens Pan-African Vision with Visa-Free Travel Policy for Africans

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Government of Ghana will introduce a visa-free regime for all African nationals traveling to the country.
The policy is set to take effect on May 25, in commemoration of Africa Day.
The announcement was made during the inaugural state visit of Emmerson Mnangagwa to Ghana, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to President Mahama, the initiative is aimed at reinforcing Ghana’s longstanding position as a leading advocate of Pan-Africanism, while also unlocking opportunities for increased tourism, investment, and intra-African trade.

The visa-free policy will form part of a broader e-visa framework scheduled for rollout next month, designed to simplify travel procedures and enhance accessibility for visitors.
President Mahama further indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will intensify efforts to secure additional visa waiver agreements for Ghanaian passport holders. He revealed that since last year, the government has successfully negotiated 23 such agreements.
The move is widely expected to strengthen regional integration and position Ghana as a key destination for African travelers and businesses.
