
Government Procures Over 24,000 Medical Equipment to Support Free Primary Healthcare Rollout

The Government of Ghana has procured 24,534 pieces of medical equipment to support the implementation of its free primary healthcare policy, in a major step toward strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, inspected the consignment ahead of its nationwide distribution to health facilities. The equipment is expected to enhance service delivery and improve access to essential healthcare at the primary level.

The items procured include baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for newborn resuscitation, as well as X-ray machines, vital signs monitors, glucometers for diabetes screening, patient monitors, infusion devices, laboratory analysers, delivery beds, hospital beds, and ultrasound machines.

According to the Minister, the initiative is aimed at retooling government health facilities and boosting their capacity to deliver quality care. He emphasized that the intervention underscores government’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system that prioritizes preventive care and early treatment.

The distribution of the equipment is expected to significantly improve efficiency in primary healthcare delivery and pave the way for the smooth implementation of the free primary healthcare policy.
