The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) is considering the operationalisation of its services in Ghana, a development expected to further boost investor confidence and strengthen the country’s position as a preferred investment destination in Africa.
The move was discussed during a high-level meeting between officials of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) and a delegation from ICSID led by Secretary-General, Madam Martina Polasek, alongside Senior Counsel, Madam Aissatou Diop.

The engagement explored opportunities for Ghana to serve as a regional hub for investor-state dispute prevention, mediation, and capacity building, in line with efforts to enhance investment protection and dispute resolution mechanisms across the continent.
Discussions also underscored Ghana’s growing strategic importance within Africa’s investment landscape, citing the country’s stable institutional framework, its role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and its increasing attractiveness to global investors.

Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, Mr Simon Madjie, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that support a transparent and investor-friendly business climate. He expressed GIPC’s interest in collaborating with ICSID to build capacity in dispute prevention, grievance management, and investor facilitation.

The proposed operationalisation of ICSID services in Ghana is expected to contribute to a more predictable investment environment and reinforce the country’s reputation as a gateway for investment into Africa.
