Ministry of Gender Backs Black Maidens Ahead of FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualifiers

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed its unwavering support for Ghana’s national U-17 women’s team, the Black Maidens, ahead of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia.
In a press statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry praised the Black Maidens for their dedication, discipline and determination, describing the team as a source of inspiration for young girls across the country.
According to the statement, the Ministry believes the team’s achievements demonstrate the limitless potential of Ghanaian girls when given the opportunity to excel.

“Their journey continues to inspire a new generation of young girls to pursue their dreams boldly, both on and off the field,” the statement noted.
Ghana will host Liberia in the first leg of the qualifier on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The return leg is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Liberia.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, extended her encouragement to the players and technical team, urging them to remain focused, confident and united as they seek qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
She further assured the team of the full backing of the nation, particularly Ghanaian women and girls, as they continue to represent the country on the international stage.
The Ministry wished the Black Maidens success in their quest for qualification and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the empowerment and advancement of women and girls through sports and other opportunities.
