The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assured Ghanaians that the government is taking all necessary measures to safeguard the country against the Ebola virus disease following recent global health concerns.

Addressing the public, the Minister disclosed that the Ministry of Health has, within the past week, issued two public notices on Ebola after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the disease a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

Hon. Akandoh explained that Ebola is a highly infectious viral disease transmitted through direct contact with infected blood, body fluids, secretions, or contaminated surfaces and materials.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report to the nearest health facility if they experience symptoms such as sudden fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding.

The Minister, however, stressed that no Ebola cases have been recorded in West Africa, including Ghana, and noted that the current risk level in the country remains low.
“Prevention is always better than cure,” he stated, while encouraging citizens to strictly observe preventive measures.

He advised the public to practice good hand hygiene by washing hands frequently with soap under running water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. He also called on organizers of mass gatherings to provide adequate handwashing stations and sanitizers at event venues.

Hon. Akandoh reassured the public of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining public health safety across the country.

“I would like to use this opportunity to assure everybody that the government is taking all the necessary measures to protect us all,” he said.
