The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that significant power network improvement works in the Greater Kumasi area are nearing completion, a move expected to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity supply across the region.

In a statement issued on May 29, ECG revealed that upgrade projects on the sub-transmission line connecting the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation, as well as the Kaase-to-Ridge Bulk Supply Point corridor, are scheduled to be completed by June 5, 2026.

The company said the project is aimed at boosting power system reliability, improving voltage levels and strengthening the overall resilience of the electricity distribution network in the Ashanti Region.

As part of the upgrade, ECG is replacing older 265-square-millimetre conductors with larger 400-square-millimetre cables. The new infrastructure is expected to increase power transmission capacity and support a more stable electricity supply for consumers.

Areas expected to benefit from the improved network include Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai and several nearby communities.

According to ECG, the project will also reinforce the connection between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points, enhancing operational flexibility, efficiency and system stability within the region.

The company expressed optimism that the investment will help meet rising electricity demand in Greater Kumasi while delivering a stronger and more dependable power supply to households and businesses.
