President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and sustainable national development during an engagement with members of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom.

The meeting took place in London on the sidelines of the Ghana, UK Investment Summit, which seeks to strengthen bilateral trade ties, promote economic cooperation and attract investment into Ghana.

Speaking at the town hall session, President Mahama outlined ongoing constitutional review efforts aimed at increasing the participation of Ghanaians living abroad in the country’s governance. He explained that the proposed reforms could allow qualified dual citizens to contest for parliamentary seats and serve as ministers, giving the diaspora a greater role in shaping national policies.

The President also expressed confidence in Ghana’s economic direction, citing growing international recognition of the country’s recovery efforts and reform programmes. He noted that Ghana is gradually emerging as an example of economic resilience and recovery despite recent financial difficulties.

Touching on continental development, Mr. Mahama underscored the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as a crucial platform for boosting trade, fostering economic growth and strengthening cooperation among African nations.

He further praised the contributions of Ghanaians abroad, noting that the diaspora continues to play a vital role in supporting the country’s socio-economic development and enhancing its global partnerships.

The engagement offered members of the Ghanaian community in the UK an opportunity to interact directly with the President, discuss national issues and explore ways they can contribute to Ghana’s continued progress.
