The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has launched a 12-week nationwide flood prevention campaign aimed at encouraging proper waste disposal and reducing flooding during the rainy season.
The initiative, known as the “No Do No Do” campaign, is designed to raise public awareness about the dangers of indiscriminate waste disposal, especially the dumping of refuse into drains and waterways, which remains one of the leading causes of flooding in many parts of Ghana.
Speaking at the launch in Accra on Tuesday, June 2, the Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Dennis Adjannor Nartey, highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by blocked drains and inadequate drainage systems.
He noted that these issues continue to result in loss of lives, destruction of property and disruptions to livelihoods whenever heavy rains occur. According to Mr. Nartey, “Flooding is not a natural disaster. It is a challenge we can solve when government, the private sector and communities work together.”

He explained that the collaboration between NADMO and Zoomlion will leverage technology, public participation and practical interventions to address the root causes of flooding.
The campaign will focus on activities such as drain desilting, community education, public sensitisation and improving early warning systems. Mr. Nartey also called on individuals, institutions and community leaders to embrace the “No Do No Do” message by making responsible waste disposal a daily practice to help safeguard lives and property.
The General Manager for Governmental Affairs, Strategic Partnerships, Corporate Affairs, Media and Brands at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ms. Emma Adwoa Appiah Osei-Duah, said the campaign seeks to promote behavioural change and environmental responsibility through a simple but impactful message.
“The message is clear: Don’t dump. Don’t block. Let water flow,” she stated, adding that Ghana continues to experience preventable losses every rainy season due to clogged drains and poor waste management practices.
Ms. Osei-Duah stressed that lasting solutions to flooding begin with personal responsibility, urging residents to keep their surroundings clean and ensure drainage channels remain unobstructed.
She noted that Zoomlion’s expertise in waste management, combined with NADMO’s role in disaster management, provides a solid platform for driving meaningful and lasting change nationwide. As part of the campaign, public education programmes, stakeholder engagements, community outreach initiatives and clean-up exercises will be carried out in flood-prone communities across the country.
