Two Killed, One Injured in Fatal Accident at Nsutam on Accra–Kumasi Highway

Nsutam, Eastern Region – June 3, 2026
A tragic road accident involving a fuel tanker and a motorbike has claimed the lives of two people and left another seriously injured at Nsutam Community 5 along the Accra–Kumasi Highway near the newly established Bunso University of Agriculture and Engineering.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

According to eyewitnesses, the motorbike, with registration number M-20-AS (8508), was carrying the rider and two female passengers when it attempted to cross the highway. Eyewitnesses indicated that the rider allegedly failed to properly check for oncoming vehicles before crossing the road.
The fuel tanker, bearing registration number GH 2205-26, which was travelling from Kumasi towards Accra, reportedly collided with the motorbike. The impact was severe, resulting in the instant death of the rider and one of the female passengers at the scene.

The second female passenger sustained serious injuries and reportedly became unconscious. She was rushed to Hawa Memorial Hospital, Osiem, where she is currently receiving medical attention.
When a reporter from Radio 1 visited the accident scene, emergency response personnel, including the police and fire service, had not yet arrived.
Eyewitnesses claimed it took nearly ten minutes before emergency officials arrived to take control of the situation.

The bodies of the deceased were later conveyed to Kyebi Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and identification.
Police officers at the scene retrieved several personal belongings, including mobile phones and bags belonging to the victims. Authorities have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The residents who rushed to the scene expressed shock and sadness over the incident, describing it as a preventable tragedy. Many called for increased road safety awareness and greater caution among motorists and motorcyclists using the busy highway.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the deceased had not been officially established, and police are expected to conduct further investigations and notify their families.
