The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has successfully carried out four additional kidney transplant surgeries, increasing the total number of transplants performed at the facility to 15.

The Centre said the latest achievement reflects its expanding expertise in delivering specialised renal treatment and advanced transplant care within Ghana. Since completing its first kidney transplant in June 2024, UGMC has continued to make significant progress, providing life-changing treatment and renewed hope for patients battling end-stage kidney disease.

According to management, the accomplishment marks an important milestone in efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system while reducing the need for patients to seek transplant services outside the country. UGMC also praised its multidisciplinary medical team for their commitment, skill, and professionalism, which have been instrumental in the success of the transplant programme.

The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to high-quality transplant services, advancing specialised healthcare, and enhancing patient outcomes nationwide. The successful procedures further cement UGMC’s reputation as a leading hub for organ transplantation and specialised medical services in Ghana.
