During the meeting, Fosun Medical Technology’s Information Technology expert, Mr. Li Qianjian George, delivered a presentation on China’s advanced emergency medical systems and technologies. He highlighted key innovations, including integrated information management systems, mobile medical oxygen plants, tracking technologies, communication devices, and modern emergency response protocols.

Mr. Li noted that several aspects of China’s emergency response system could be adapted to support the operations of the National Ambulance Service in Ghana. He explained that the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology helps distinguish prank calls from genuine emergency cases, significantly improving response efficiency and reducing unnecessary delays.
According to him, China’s emergency medical services achieve an average response time of between eight and ten minutes. He further revealed that ambulances in China are typically staffed by a doctor, a nurse, and a driver, with the country maintaining an ambulance-to-population ratio of approximately one ambulance for every 15,000 people.

Leading the delegation, Mr. Zhang Bing Byron underscored the need for a robust Information Technology infrastructure within Ghana’s emergency medical services. He highlighted several technological solutions currently deployed in China, including onboard ambulance management systems capable of monitoring personnel activities, detecting alcohol consumption, preventing unauthorized removal of medical equipment, and tracking operational activities within emergency vehicles.
Another member of the delegation, Ms. Zhang Yuginj Melody, proposed a training programme scheduled for July 2026 to equip NAS personnel with practical knowledge of advanced technological systems that could strengthen Ghana’s emergency medical response framework.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, expressed appreciation for the visit and the valuable insights shared by the Fosun Medical Technology team. He also invited the delegation to participate in a medical conference scheduled for September 2026 in Ghana, where discussions on a potential partnership are expected to continue.
The engagement marks a significant step toward fostering international cooperation and leveraging technology to improve emergency healthcare delivery and response capabilities in Ghana.
