Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology faced significant disruptions on Thursday morning after heavy overnight rainfall caused flooding in several parts of the university campus.
The downpour, which began late on Wednesday night, caused the Wewe River to overflow its banks, inundating sections of the KNUST–Mecca Road and surrounding areas. Among the worst affected locations were Mecca Road and Casely Hayford, where rising floodwaters submerged roads, bridges and pedestrian walkways, making movement difficult.
The flooding left many students stranded as they attempted to travel between halls of residence and lecture venues. While some students sought alternative routes to reach their destinations, others remained indoors due to safety concerns.
Videos circulating on social media showed parts of the Mecca Road bridge under water, highlighting the severity of the situation. Despite the challenging conditions, some university shuttle buses managed to navigate flooded sections of the campus to transport students, although taxis and smaller vehicles encountered difficulties.

To help manage the situation, university security personnel were deployed to direct traffic and ensure the safety of students and motorists.
As of Thursday morning, university authorities had not released an official statement detailing the extent of the flooding or its potential impact on academic activities.
