Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the nation’s rivers, forests, and natural resources following a leadership transition at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

Speaking during a ceremony to acknowledge the contributions of the outgoing team and welcome a new leadership team, hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, minister Of Lands and Natural Resources emphasized that the ultimate measure of success in the fight against illegal mining goes beyond the number of operations conducted, excavators seized, or arrests made.
According to the remarks, the true indicator of progress lies in the restoration and recovery of Ghana’s polluted rivers and degraded ecosystems.

Over the years, NAIMOS officers have operated under challenging conditions across seven regions and 54 districts, working tirelessly to safeguard the country’s natural resources and restore public confidence in environmental recovery efforts.
The outgoing team was commended for its dedication and service to the nation, while the incoming leadership was urged to build on the gains made and remain focused on the task ahead.

As Ghana continues its fight against illegal mining and environmental degradation, the new team has been charged with sustaining efforts to protect the country’s natural heritage for future generations.
“The work continues,” the statement concluded, underscoring the government’s determination to achieve lasting environmental restoration.
