Education Minister Mourns UCC Student, Orders Full Investigation into Death

Accra, June 14, 2026 – The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Ms. Innocentia Avinu, a Level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), whose body was reportedly discovered at a beach in Cape Coast.
In response to the tragic incident, the Minister has directed the management of the University of Cape Coast to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Sunday, June 14, urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.

The Ministry also extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, her friends, and the entire University of Cape Coast community during this difficult period.
