A Former Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Murtala Mohammed, has described as not genuine the action of the Minster for Gender, Children and Social Protection over the three Takoradi kidnapped girls.
Cynthia Morrison had paid a visit to the home of Priscilla Mantsebea Koranchie, the 15-year-old student of Sekondi College who was kidnapped on the December 21, 2018 at Nkroful junction.
During the visit, the Gender Minister gave an assurance that the girls were alive and would be brought back to their parents. She was reported to have been emotional and shed tears on the visit.
But Mr. Murtala thinks the Minister was only shedding what he termed as “crocodile tears”, questioning what has become of the promise she made to the families to find the girls.
“These young girls are gone missing and the police never even had much interactions with the family. You have the Minister of Gender who traveled to shed crocodile tears. She went [and] met the families and told them they would get their kids very soon, what forced her to do that?” he quizzed.
According to the former Member of Parliament, the Minister of Gender did not have any right to go shed tears and sympathize with the families of the victims when the police had not updated them on the status of the case.
“Three months getting to four months nobody hears anything about it. On what basis did the Minister of State make those promises?” he reiterated his earlier question.
Mr. Murtala also questioned the competence of the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who announced 23 days ago that the girls had been found.
He wants COP Addo-Danquah to explain her motive for putting out information that is taking so long to materialise.
“The CID should tell us why she made that pronouncement. Was it that it was done to please the political apparatchik?” he asked.
“Now you have a CID boss who is not fit to be there, I spoke on this programme that that woman was not fit to be a CID [boss but] people thought I hated the woman, why? This is a woman who was caught on tape covering up crimes.”
Meanwhile, the police have denied reports in the media that the girls have been rescued from the kidnappers.
