Enough is Enough, KNUST Students To Go On Strike – SRC President

The Student Representative Council, SRC President of one of the best public Universities in Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology, KNUST, Mr Kelvin Sah has emphatically stated without mincing words that the student body of the renowned academic institution will lay down their books and pens and embark on anger strike on Monday October 22, 2018 to register their displeasure towards the administrative body of KNUST.

He said in consultation with the Junior Common Room JCR Executives, Departmental Executives, The parliamentary Council and all Student stakeholders in the school, they send out the message to all students not to go for lectures even as the Dean of students had early on released a communique that the administration has been notified of their intention to boycott lectures and had warned them to rescind their decision.

Mr Kelvin Sah made these bold statements Sunday, October 21 2018 on Focus Fm and Monitored by Radio 1FM 100.7MHZ following the arrest of 11 Students from the University Hall also known as Katanga on Friday evening when the students were doing their normal ritual; Moral.

It is a tradition in University hall that  every Friday Evening the students of this hall converge at the hall’s premises to sing songs and same thing happened on the Friday when they were singing what they term as dirges, it didn’t go down well with the campus Securities and as they were ordered by the school’s hierarchy to make sure such meeting and program doesnt come off, they called for re-enforcement.

In attempts to stop them from singing their usual dirges, they brutalized the students, one heavily wounded and receiving medication at the University hospital while 10 others are in the police custody.

According to Mr Sah, what is so appalling is that one student who was badly wounded was still at the University Police Custody and was denied from Medication. On that note he said Enough is Enough, the Students have had enough, their voices now need to be heard so all are to converge at the Peace junction on Monday October 22 at exactly 7:00am  so they march to the administration to register their grievances.

However, he believes Morale should not be banned rather should be controlled and also said the student who was brutalised must have his medications fully funded by the administration.

Two male halls in KNUST, this academic year converted to mixed hall. Specifically Unity hall and Katanga. Attempts by these halls to stop the conversion were all in vain. Students of these halls believe their rights have been trampled upon.
