Women in the North Tongu constituency in the Volta region are threatening to vote against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over an alleged comment by their District Chief Executive, they deem derogatory.
According to reports, the DCE, Fafa Agbai was said to have asked women to vote against independent Parliamentary candidate, Christopher K. Eleblu since he will only buy traditional menstrual pads for them instead of developing the area.
The comment made on a local radio station at Battor, a town in the constituency, the aggrieved women claimed were deliberately made to destroy the image of Eleblu as the elections draw closer to favour incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Leader of the women from the Dorfor Tradtional area, Charlotte Borbor in an interview with Adom News’ Kwame Yankah that they are ready beat the hell out of the DCE.
“If we get hold Fafa, we have to teach her a bitter lesson. We will certainly put some fear in her. What has the quest for power got to do with our menstruation?, she asked.
Other women are threatening to vote against President John Mahama after voting for Eleblu who is the independent Parliamentary candidate for North Tongu.
Meanwhile, over hundred women marched through parts of Juapong to express their disappointment over the comments from the DCE which they described as uncouth.
