President of world football governing body, Gianni Infantino, has confirmed that Africa will get more than seven slots in the proposed 48-team World Cup.

FIFA boss Infantino was speaking to journalists in Ghana where he is on a one-day official visit. ‘‘African representation will definitely be more than seven. Now the precise number we are still working it out,’‘ he said.

He further confirmed that FIFA’s investment in African football had spiked from $27m to $94m a year as part of efforts aimed at developing the sport further.
