Majority Leader Condemns Suhuyini’s ‘Wild’ Behaviour

The “wild” gesticulations, abusive language and insults hurled at some MPs by Tamale North lawmaker Alhassan Suhuyini on the floor of parliament during Thursday’s debate on the Joe Ghartey Committee Report in connection with a bribery allegation made by Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga against the leadership of the Appointments Committee, is “most unfortunate” and “not the best”, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has said.

Amidst a near-brawl on the floor during the debate, the first-time opposition MP, according to Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, was heard and seen making abrasive and aggressive gestures at an MP as he flung insults with careless abandon.

“…He came to occupy the seat just close to where Ayariga sits… I’m talking about Suhuyini, and I’m saying that it’s most unfortunate. I mean you don’t conduct [yourself like that]. I mean on a couple of occasions, I’ve had word with him that he should watch his own attitude in the house, it’s not the best, on a couple of occasions he’s been made to apologise to people and so on and so forth,” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, 31 March.

According to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Suhuyini could be heard retorting wildly: “… Who are you to say that I should shut up, aren’t we here as MPs, aren’t we all equal?”

“He was positioned right behind where Muntaka [Mubarak] was seating, so, I thought that he was having a beef with Muntaka, so, I was signaling to Muntaka that he should not talk back, so, [Muntaka] he kept his calm, so, I don’t even know who he was making those wild gestures at but it’s certainly not good.”

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu described the whole spectacle as “an embarrassing spectacle and those of them involved should bow their heads down in shame.”
