Our target is to win U17 FIFA World Cup – Ayiah

THE captain of the Black Starlets, Eric Ayiah, says the target of the team now is to go to India later this year and win the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The Black Starlets have qualified for the World Cup after thrashing host nation Gabon by 5-0 at the Port-Gentil Stadium in their second Group A game last Wednesday.
Speaking to the media after the game, Ayiah, who has been a revelation at the tournament said, “It was a very difficult game against Gabon. They gave us a tough game, but we were able to hold on to the pressure and win the game”.
“We believe in ourselves and our target is to win the FIFA World Cup in India,” he added. Ayiah currently leads the goal scoring chart with five goals.
Ayiah put Ghana in the lead from the spot kick for his fourth goal of the championship after he was tripped in the box and five minutes later, Gabon was punished yet again for another defensive blunder when Toku latched on onto a loose ball before firing past goalkeeper Brunel Ilagou to make it 2-0.
The Starlets captain got his brace in the 56th minute of the second half to record his fourth goal of the tournament. Man-of-the-match, Emmanuel Toku, also got his brace in the 61st minute and Arhin completed the route in the 76th minute.
Ghana will play its final group game tomorrow against Guinea at the Stade de I’Amitie. Cameroon will take on host nation Gabon in the other group game.
