Farmer Base Organisation FBO(Boafo Farmers Association) at new Jejeti in Atiwa district of the eastern region, President Mr. James Kissi has stated that, recommended chemicals for farmers by government to fight fall army worm is not effective.
Mr. Kissi speaking to Radio 1 on Agric Programme dubbed “Ghana Akuafo “, on air program, every Monday evening with the host Nana Kwabena Addo, he said chemicals given or recommended for farmers to spray on their crops to fight fall army worm is not effective, because it doesn’t kill the worms ,he also stated that due to this problem farmers are facing a lot of problem of the chemicals on the market to find the one which will kill the pest, this worms usually attack maize in our area in which we farm. ” I have farm about 3 hectares of maize , but the worms destroyed my farm , my work has been in vain”. he lamented .
He therefore appeal to government, Agric Ministry and Extension officers to come to their aid by given them more education on this pest and also provide them with the effective chemicals to spray on their crops.
During the course of the programme, Agronomist Mr. Shakespear added that he side with the farmers lamenting for effective chemical to fight pest invaded on farmers crops, he blame the government for not putting pragmatic measures in the first place for it fighting.
According to him government did not consult right persons in the field of Agronomist Expert, he advised government to do something about the situation before it gets out of hand right now, because the chemical provided to them are fake and something must done before the fall army worm gets out of hand.
