Anti-galamsey war to cost $150m

It will cost the state a total of $150 million to implement fully government’s anti-galamsey plan to stem out illegal small-scale mining.

Mining Integrated Project (MMIP) document developed by the government has the following breakdown of the amount.

Reviewing and enforcing the legal and the regulatory regime ($10m)

Dredging rivers, reclaiming degraded lands and freeing lands for agribusiness ($50m)

Implementing social interventions to facilitate livelihood creation in mining communities ($50m)

Adopting technology to ensure efficient mining, processing, environmental and monitoring activities ($20m)

Human resource development and project management ($10m)

Communication ($10m)

The Akufo-Addo government launched an onslaught on the galamsey after taking office in January 2017 which has incurred the wrath of the operators.
