MMT Workers demonstrate against poor working condition

There is chaos at some offices of the Metro Mass Transit Limited across the country as workers protest what they described as the poor working conditions at the Company.

They are incensed by the decision of the leadership to purchase a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle for the Chief Executive at a cost of over 400,000 cedi’s, when hundreds of buses have been grounded due to the lack of spare parts. Their allowances for long-haul journeys have also not been paid for months..

In interview with Captain Kofi Owusu the host of Radio 1 Breakfast Show ‘Susubiribi’,the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Junior staff Union of Metro  Mass Transport  Edward  Agyapong said it’s barely four months that the new Managing Director Bennet Aboagye took over  in office, since that time, things are getting out of hand.

He added that, there are over One Hundred buses in the workshop that have broken down, some simply due to worn out tyres or minor mechanical problems, “the management has not bothered to make available resources to fix them, but have the “guts” to decide to buy a luxurious vehicle for the CEO.”

According to Mr Agyapong workers are not pay on time, staff lacks uniforms, poor sleeper rooms, and non-payment of sleeper allowances, huge GOIL debt and owing numerous suppliers.

The workers of metro mass transit limited are appealing to the government to sack the new Managing director, Mr Bennet Aboagye who is running the company as his own business property before another action will be taken.
