As Breast cancer is a disease which malignant (cancer) cell form in the tissue of the Breast and second leading cause of death among women, the Chairman of Breast care International Ghana Dr. Beatrice Wiafe has exhorted women to seek early treatment at the hospital than resorting to treatment at the herbal centre when they detect a lump in their Breast.
Dr. Wiafe was speaking at a media launch of Breast Cancer International Ghana WALK for the cure of breast cancer 2017 in the Eastern regional capital Koforidua this week. It was under the theme ‘Our BREAST LET’S CHECK THEM’
According to the campaign crusader of eradicating breast cancer in the country Dr. Beatrice, most women go to herbal centres to be cured of breast cancer and after it has exacerbated into something else before they turn to the hospital for cure, and there is a misconception that the cancer has no cure but it not true.
” Statistics shows that each year it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the united states will diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,500 will die ,Early detection and correct diagnosis is being provided by comprehensive approach, when women who has high risk of contracting breast cancer early detection is being provided by minimizing their chance of contracting cancer in future via regular examine and special counselling service.’’ She stated.
She further stated that women have a great responsibility towards the family and if they are affected ,it also affect the whole family owing to this, women should not sit down for disease that can be cured to degenerate beyond control.
The campaign crusader of cancer enumerated some of the barriers in breast cancer health care as Cost involved, Fear, Poverty, lack of support and distance.
On the other hand she urged Men not to leave their spouse when affected but they should support them fight the disease by seeking medical attention instead of sending them to herbalist, prayer centres and using all kinds of oil to apply on the breast.
Meanwhile Dr. Wiafe added that it is difficult for them to get sponsorship for health programmes in Ghana but if it were to be beauty pageant, sponsors will be clamouring for it.
she appealed to philanthropist, corporate bodies, NGO’S and religious bodies to come to their aid for public education to eradicate breast cancer in the country.
