Court fines State Attorney for negligence

The Court of Appeal on Wednesday awarded a rare cost against the state by ordering that the Interior Ministry and Ghana Immigration Service pay GHc1,000 each following the withdrawal of an appeal of a ruling by an Accra court in the matter, namely the Interior Minister and the Ghana Immigration Service.

State Attorney, Jasmine Armah failed to appeal the judgment of the Accra High Court that ordered the restoration of the residence and work permit of Indian businessman, Ashok Sivaram within seven days.

The state after filling for an appeal withdrew same on Wednesday without an explanation to the three member panel presided over by Justice P.K Gyaesayor.

The court expressed shock at the action by the state and demanded an assurance from the state that after withdrawal, they would not turn back to file fresh appeal to frustrate the defendant.
