NPP, NDC Anti-Vigilantism Dialogue Resumes Today

The two leading political parties, ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) will today resume the dialogue on ending the unlawful activities of political vigilantism.

At their last meeting, the two parties agreed to commence the discussion with key stakeholders and experts including representatives of Civil Society Organisations, security agencies and religious bodies.

The meeting which is at the instance of President Akufo-Addo is being mediated by the National Peace Council.

Meanwhile, the NDC in a letter to Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee has raised some objections to Vigilantism and Related Offenses Bill currently before the House.

According to a letter addressed to Parliament by the NDC and sighted by Kasapafmonline.com, said the bill in its current form cannot solve the problem of political party vigilantism.

The letter signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Kakra Essamuah said the Criminal Offenses Act, deals with the issue more effectively than the bill does.
