Captain Rtd Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, a private legal practioner and a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, has expressed his disappointment in the current speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye for writing to the court that the Tamale Central MP, Mahama Ayariga had work to do at parliament and for that matter should have been excused attending court yesterday.

Lawyer Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, made these revelations on a phone interview on the susubiribi morning show on Radio 1FM 100.7MHZ on thursday June 6 2019 when the host, Nana Kwabena Addo Papabi asked of his opinion on the speaker of Parliament’s certificate to the high court.

According to the lawyer, Rt Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye should have known better, because he is a lawyer and has been a law lecturer and therefore must know the issue at hand. He again said a member of parliament is not above the law.

“He (Ayariga) is not above the law and Rt Hon. Mike Oquaye should have known better. I’m disappointed in him because the speaker is a lawyer and has even taught law at the university before. Sending a letter to court on Ayariga case, is low and speaker should have known better. I’m disappointed,” – Effah-Dartey fumed.

Moreover, Captain Rtd Nkrabea Effah-Dartey said the calibre of the speaker shouldn’t have even go to that extent since the case of Ayariga cannot be handled as such.

The Tamale central legislator, Mahama Ayariga was invited by the special prosecutor, Martin Alamisi Amidu to appear before court to answer on the controversies of his imported vehicles.

However, the legislator ingnored the invite and was ready to challenge the special prosecutor which went to the extent of the speaker adding a certificate that the invite would affect parliament sitting.

The court of competent jurisdiction denied them their plea and adjourned the hearing to June 10 2019.
