“Rescind The Decision Of The Vetting Committee Lest We Defect To NDC” – Irate Atiwa West Youth Threatens

The concerned youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Atiwa West constituency in the eastern region have sent a message through a press conference to the National Executive Council of NPP to as a matter of urgency rescind the decision of the eastern regional vetting committee which sought to disqualify one aspirant to pave way for the incumbent member of parliament cum Road minister, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta to go unopposed in the upcoming NPP primaries.

Addressing the press on Friday March 13 2020 by the irate youth at the Palace Court-Kwabeng, the secretary for the group, Yaw Boabeng disclosed that there was a hint of initial plot to disqualify Dr Owusu Akyem from the competition irrespective of his performance and contribution to the party.

He alleged that the vetting committee has failed the NPP faithfuls and supporters since it appeared the committee already had their results inside their pockets prior to vetting.

“It was alleged to disqualify Dr Samuel Owusu Akyem but some of us came to speak about it till it was confirmed by the eastern regional NPP chairman on saturday March 7 2020 openly said he would disqualify every aspirant in Atiwa except the incumbents, we have already taken the decision. But we the concerned youth of Atiwa NPP will not sit down and allow any individual working for their own selfish and parochial interest to send the party into opposition” – Yaw Boabeng spewed.

Yaw Boabeng, who looked more aggressive added that the party should build a strong party/constituency rather than build a strong member of parliament or minister. He again advised the eminent committee to sit on the petition to bring back Dr Owusu Akyem into the race.

“The advise we are giving to the NPP National council or the NPP as a party is to build a strong and united front than to build a strong man, strong cabinet member who will call for defeat for the party. We are telling them to listen to the masses because the voice of the people is the voice of God. So we are appealing to them to rescind the decision of the vetting committee and allow the process to go on. Allow the discerning delegates to choose our candidate for us” – Boabeng added.

With cheers in the environment, he reminded the party of what happened in areas where the party once lost seats and also tasked the party to look into the allegations that some incumbent MPs paid GHS 25,000 to go unopposed.

He could not fathom why eastern region leads in the number of disqualified aspirants and more of them in the area of the president.

The PRO of the youth, Maxwell Kwakye who was more concerned about the enormous youth unemployment revealed that it is about time the leadership in the constituency were changed since they dont listen to them. He also added that if the party fails to address their issues, they would defect to NDC.

“Remember the president said in Atiwa we showed them something small. Let me also say that if President Akufo-Addo does not intervene and sort things out, we will also show him something small in December 7 polls. We will defect to NDC” – Kwakye Maxwell added.

Fiifi, an executive, took turn to give the hierarchy of NPP one (1) week ultimatum to sort things out lest they defect from the party.

The youth generally complained about lack of district hospital, district market, School bus for Kwabeng Anglican Senior High Technical School, lack of lorry park, lack of communication between the party and the constituents and bad roads.
