The Minister of Food and Agriculture who doubles as the member of parliament for Kwadaso constituency in the Ashanti region from 2009 to date on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Hon. Dr Afriyie Akoto will today, 1st May 2020 visit and engage Rice farmers and market women in the Atiwa East District in the Eastern region.
The all important program which comes off at Aworonsua will meet the Aworonsua Rice farmers Association and deliberate on developing and promoting local rice in the country amid the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
According to information available, the ministry of food and Agriculture which is responsible for the development and growth of agriculture in the country will tackle other pressing issues of concern. Especially, engaging the youth in planting for food and jobs. It is therefore necessary to note that his jurisdiction does not cover the cocoa, coffee or forestry sectors.
The Minister for Agriculture Owusu Afriyie-Akoto has recently revealed that Ghana has enough food in store despite the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana.
Meanwhile, there have been fears that the disease in Ghana, coupled with its related restrictions in the country could lead to food insecurity and shortages.
